breadmakers rock. The bread here sucks so I took up a few more inches of my limited space and got a robot that makes bread. I made (and ate) two loaves of cucumber bread this weekend.
I learned a few things about japanese girls this weekend-they can't see the tip of their nose, and when they laugh it looks like their eyes are closed.

eternal sunshine

I finally got to see eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. Man, it was super amazing. Japan is years ahead for everything else, but movies come out soo slow here. It was so worth the wait though. It left me in such a weird head space.

I hope that in 50 years they will have finally figured out what to do for poor terry schiavo. And whats wrong with those people who bus themselves in from all over with placards about how they love her and jesus and pray for her. Those people are totally crazy. Whose business is it besides the family? To get all involved and pray outside the hospice and cry is plain cuckoo for coco puffs. Call the white van and take those people away. Maybe then we can finally get a democrat back in.

Its been so sunny and warm lately. Spring has sprung and flowers are blooming, birds are singing and my hair is getting long enough that I can feel it in the wind. Its such a nice 70's vibe. I bought a plant for my porch. Its kind of a bonsai tree. Its going crazy with the flowers lately.

Hidemi and I went to the emporers palace this weekend. The palace itself is closed to the public for all but 2 days a year, but you can walk around the grounds. Its beautiful. It was kind of a grey day, and its a bit early for most of the flowers, but it was still amazing. It must be so weird to be him, all secluded behind walls, japanese gardens, nature and quiet, surrounded by Tokyo. Its his country. Hes the man.

On my walk to school this morning the guy who collects cans around the hood on a bike you can barely see said "hello, how are you?" My mans got bags of cans on the front, back, sides. everywhere but below, and in a third world kind of impressive way. It started the itch
Hidemi and I are going to do a short tour next month during spring break (golden week), maybe to hakone or nikko to see some monkeys. I made my mind up after a few brew that Im going to ride from alaska to the tip o south america in the soonish future. Im going to set a date and do it. This is an open invitation to any and all friends who are into it. I know of a few who would be perfect. Yeah, a year on a bike. 12000 miles

tastes like america

animal vs buddy rich
Originally uploaded by freebeets.

Will there ever be a show like the muppet show again? Animal, growling and bangin away in a drum off with Buddy rich brings back a flood of footie pajamad "yay muppet show time!" I showed a few episodes that I found online to Hidemi. She thinks that one of the old guys who always heckled the show looks like Kim Jong-Il. She also thinks that crest toothpaste tastes like America mmmmm... not in a good way either.
In other news, after a long search, I think Ive found my next bike. A sky blue 3rensho track bike. A steal from what it seems snoopin around online. Spring is here. Im thinking about doing some bike touring in april. Maybe up to Nikko to see my monkey brothers.

It takes forever, but is cool as hell. Im going to do the cover of the school yearbook with one. Im also totally addicted to the new low, and decemberists albums and this song by iron and wine. it sounds so corny, but the lyrics are beautiful. Im getting to be such a softy...

Please, remember me
Happily
By the rosebush laughing
With bruises on my chin
The time when
We counted every black car passing
Your house beneath the hill
And up until
Someone caught us in the kitchen
With maps, a mountain range,
A piggy bank
A vision too removed to mention
But

Please, remember me
Fondly
I heard from someone you're still pretty
And then
They went on to say
That the pearly gates
Had some eloquent graffiti
Like 'We'll meet again'
And 'Fuck the man'
And 'Tell my mother not to worry'
And angels with their gray
Handshakes
Were always done in such a hurry
And

Please, remember me
At Halloween
Making fools of all the neighbors
Our faces painted white
By midnight
We'd forgotten one another
And when the morning came
I was ashamed
Only now it seems so silly
That season left the world
And then returned
And now you're lit up by the city
So

Please, remember me
Mistakenly
In the window of the tallest tower call
Then pass us by
But much too high
To see the empty road at happy hour
Leave and resonate
Just like the gates
Around the holy kingdom
With words like 'Lost and Found' and 'Don't Look Down'
And 'Someone Save Temptation'
And

Please, remember me
As in the dream
We had as rug-burned babies
Among the fallen trees
And fast asleep
Aside the lions and the ladies
That called you what you like
And even might
Give a gift for your behavior
A fleeting chance to see
A trapeze
Swing as high as any savior
But

Please, remember me
My misery
And how it lost me all I wanted
Those dogs that love the rain
And chasing trains
The colored birds above there running
In circles round the well
And where it spells
On the wall behind St. Peter's
So bright with cinder gray
And spray paint
'Who the hell can see forever?'
And

Please, remember me
Seldomly
In the car behind the carnival
My hand between your knees
You turn from me
And said 'The trapeze act was wonderful
But never meant to last'
The clown that passed
Saw me just come up with anger
When it filled with circus dogs
The parking lot
Had an element of danger
So

Please, remember me
Finally
And all my uphill clawing
My dear
But if i make
The pearly gates
Do my best to make a drawing
Of G-d and Lucifer
A boy and girl
An angel kissin on a sinner
A monkey and a man
A marching band
All around the frightened trapeze swingers

sway

bedtime story
Originally uploaded by freebeets.

I was on the train yesterday, watching hidemi sleep in a row of swaying shut eyes. Its like a sleepy neck dance. People dont want to get too close and bonk heads. I started wondering if they were all ostriches-would their necks sway a lot, or would they be really stiff because they'd be all freaked out about being on a train. Ill bet if they were sleeping ostriches, theyd sway.

I woke up this morning with the sheets on the floor (they dont have far to go) I dreamed that I was hanging out with some friends and Whitney Houston. We were out, hittin the town, dancing and whatnot (any of you who know me, know that Im not a dancin man. Ill dance with gramma or a slow dance where I can fake it, but thats about it) Anyway, I must have danced the blankies off the bed - I woke up freezin. and I will always love you.
Yesterdays baked goods sale was a hit- we raised about 120 big ones. The plan is to try to raise a bunch of money to put towards ibooks for every kid in my class next year.
speakin of cash, I was on the way to the store today and found a bag on the ground. picked it up and heard the coins clanging, and felt the wad of bills. Turned out to be 14,000 yen (about 140 bucks). I asked my class what they would do if they found a bag of money and got a unanimous decision to return the money. we did this detective thing, where they got clues from looking at the bag, smelling it (reeked of smoke) and there was a receipt from the supermarket in the hood. Were going on a field trip tomorrow to return it. Other places Ive taught I think the vote would have been about as honest as a US presidential election.

eat in space

came home from dinner with hidemi smelling like smoke even though we sat in the non-smoking section. I wish I could fart on demand. I'd walk up to people who are smoking where Im eating or having coffee and I'd fart on them. They force their stink on me... I wonder how that would translate though?
