MC E in the house

rose petal

I took my class to see an MC Escher exhibit today at the sogo mall in Yokohama. We walked in when the mall was just opening up. The people who work in all the shops stand around the hallways and greet and bow to all the shoppers, fieldtrippers, and bums who need to pee.
The kids totally dug the art. I dont know how many times I heard "whaaa?" or "how....?", or "impossible!"
Its amazing how well behaved they are. You have to play work release guard on american field trips. Not here-these kids walked around and dug the art. They looked like people looking at art.
I dont think Ill ever teach in the states again. forget 30-40 medicated, unenthusiastic, apathetic kids. The japanese actually respect and appreciate teachers. weird

Can you get one of those ear cleaning tools kits that they use on
some Japanese holiday. I read they have this day where boyfriends
and girlfriends clean each others ears - literally, not
metaphorically. Here is a good quote one of the teachers showed me
today online:

"He don't have no problem with you blinging. God's heavenly abode
proves that he is the real king of bling. His gates are pearly, his
house is about 10 stadiums big, the streets are gold. You do the
budget on that kind of place."

It funny, just today I helped a kid print out an essay he wrote
titled "Pimpin the Pope" where the author offer suggestions for
improving the Pope's style. He notes that the Pope already has a
good start with jewels and white satin robes lined with purple satin
but feels the popemobile needs serious work including 27' spinners
and neon purple ground effects. He concludes with: "After writing
this piece I will have a hard time getting into heaven. But that is
the price that a player like me must pay for style." The student who
wrote this is this kind of odd, dorky, 7th grader.

In other Middleschool news. The pool went bad today and heated up to
130 degrees. In a foolish effort to try and cool the pool down they
gym teachers opened all the windows and doors to let in lots of cold
humid air. Now our pool area looks like a Scottish lagoon or some
kind of hot spring area with massive, thick, fog. OK, back to work.

Well, Ive been lazy about blogging lately so... I dont have an internet connection at home so... I went back to the States for a brief visit last week. It was great to see friends and family, but it was super hectic and I paid for it in sleep. I brought back some old 33's and 78's to sell here. They seem to be going for good money on auction sites here. It'd be nice to make a few extra bucks selling salvation army vinyl for goofy amounts of money.
